Dogstar Theatre
The Strathspey King
This play follows the extraordinary life and career of composer and fiddler James Scott Skinner (1843 – 1927), from his humble origins as an eight-year-old musician playing bothy concerts in rural north-east Scotland, to a recording career and fame in America where he was christened “Scotland’s Paghanini”.

Skinner is played by eminent Scottish actor Billy Riddoch, well-known for regular portrayals of characters such as Lachie Senior in Hamish Macbeth. currently he is appearing in Rockface, Snoddy, and A Touch Of Frost.

The music is provided by Bruce MacGregor who is now enjoying the meteoric rise of his band Blazxin fiddles and appears at music festivals world-wide. He is joined by christine Hanson on @cello, perhaps the instrument to best accompany the Scottish fiddle.

This is hailed as an intimate and moving piece of story-telling packed with incident about a life that touched on fortune, disaster , bankruptcy, madness and scandal.
