Scottish Opera: Verdi’s Macbeth

Revival of the 2005 production
Sung in English with piano accompaniment

Macbeth was the first of Shakespeare’s great plays to provide Verdi with what became a lifelong inspiration.  The initial production in Florence in 1847 met with great acclaim but the opera faded from view until revivals in the mid 20th century. This distinctive production brings a contemporary vision to a classic work.

Scottish Opera’s brooding, atmospheric Macbeth comes to Thurso High School on Tuesday 7 October in celebration of the 2014 Year of Homecoming. Inspired by events in the war-torn Balkans, Dominic Hill‘s production is at once contemporary and ageless; a world of camouflage-clad leaders and grungy, chain-smoking witches, where power is all but it comes at a price.
